About the event

Hello!

Welcome to ..... the greatest show on earth !

Well, maybe not the greatest but its going to be a great day and we are all going to help out some folks that need a  bit of a break in life together...... and have some fun in the process.... Here's what we got planned for you:

Click here to view the auction items and register to bid The auction is live now! You can start bidding right away. When the live part of the auction starts at 6:30pm on May the 18th at the Bridge Studios, BBC`s Huw Stephens will take over and the gavel will fall on all the items starting with the highest pre-bid price.

You can also live stream whats going on in the room from My Facebook page starting just before the auction opens but to bid you will need to register your details on Easyliveauction.com beforehand.

2pm Bridge Studios opens including Flowerhorn Taproom. Please bring your ticket with you in either digital or printed format so we can scan it on entry.

  • 3pm The Carl Bevan Art 2024 collection doors open. Original paintings will be sold on a first come first served basis. To view the catalogue and prices for the 12 original paintings I have for sale, please create a login account on this website and you will be ale to access it in the members drop down menu at the top right of the page.
  • 4.30pm live music. We have some brilliant local artists for you. Joe Kelly , Al Lewis and Carwyn Ellis will be performing accoustic sets in the brewery.
  • 6.30pm The Great, Welsh Art/Rock & Roll Auction hosted by Huw Stevens This will also be livestreamed courtesy of our friends at Easy Live Auction! So you can bid if you are anywhere in the planet (and are awake, with an internet connection).
  • After the auction BOYO will be on stage!  https://www.facebook.com/BOYOWORLD

For the last 3 months, I have been harassing, hustling and full on badgering all sorts of people to acquire 11 rare and precious, exclusive objects of desire! (Yup I probably pissed a few people off in the process). I am blown away by the kindness and generosity of the people who have donated auction items.

These range from  Cerys Matthews signature military jacket to an original oil painting by the legendary Kevin Sinnot! The full catalogue will be available soon. Easyliveauction.com have been absolutely amazing by offering their services and support to help us out. This will be livestreamed also! So you can bid if you are anywhere in the planet ( and are awake, with an internet connection).

Bids can be submitted live in the auction room or online at easyliveauction.com in real time.

If you are bidding in the room please pick yourself up an auction paddle number in plenty of time before the auction starts as once it begins it will be too late to join in without one, and register your name and number.

Winning bidders can take their items away on the night after paying for them. Payment options are card, cash or bank transfer. You will be up against me in a few lots ! (I reckon I could pull that Cerys jacket off, I just got no chance of fitting into it!).

Why am I doing this ?

Well, a person who helped me massively to understand the art world and complete my transformation from musician to painter was a guy called Dominic Gubb.

Dom and I did three successful sell out pop up shows together in the Morgan Arcade and the Kings Road Yard in Pontcanna. If you came to any of those you would not have been able to miss his dazzling sculptures (dogs and monkeys, my kind of thing of course!) I couldn't have done any of that without Dom.

On the Thursday of the final week of that show, I received the news that he had suddenly passed away. The news was absolutely devastating, my loss was nothing in comparison to the grief experienced by his family.

Besides being an incredibly talented sculptor he was a much loved teacher for 30 years as assistant head in Afon Taff school in Merthyr and I am trying to raise money for the creative department of his school set up in his memory. The school has already directed the funds it has raised into creative projects to nurture artistic talent but also art therapy facilities and I hope the money raised will enable them to continue this work.

I think Dom would be smiling about this and its the best tribute to him I can think of by way of thanks for his influence on me at a time when I really readed it most.

You can read more about Dom , his life and his work as an artist and teacher here.

The other charity I would like to raise cash for is Llamau. During lock down, while many of us were in our safe homes, learning how to bake bread, putting on weight and watching box sets it really struck me how lucky I was, and how terrifying it must be to be homeless at that time. I chose Llamau because they are small enough to be directly effective in our local area and deal with the most vulnerable young people and women who find themselves in extremely difficult situations. I've fundraised for Llamau alongside my previous pop-ups and this time I hope to be able to hand them a much bigger amount of cash with your help, so they can carry on the  important work that they do.

So, a huge thanks to Huw Stephens who will be our auctioneer and also to the musicians who are going to entertain us. Its a good line up ! First live act starts at around 4:30 and the auction will be underway at 6:30pm. Do have a Mr Croquewich, you are going to need some proper ballast in you as its gonna be a late one!

Why do I need a ticket to attend the live event?

We are quite small so need to keep an eye on capacity, there are 150 tickets available. The tickets are a just a nominal tenner, the entertainment is well worth the ticket price alone and we will use a small amount to provide things like extra toilets and making sure it all runs smoothly. The rest of the cash raised will go diretcly to the charities.

I hope you have a great day, get entertained, give yourself a damned good Flowerhorning  (don`t forget to indulge in excellent Mr Croquewich menu to keep you going ) the  and enter into the spirit of the event which is to raise money for these two great causes.

We have a great little community at the Bridge Studios and this event is brought to you by all of us but especially Flowerhorn, The Mr Croquewich guys and me!

Also , its Cardiffs best kept secret drinking den, so I bet you will probably be a regular...... once you know its there!
